The South Wales M4 Corridor Energy Hub: Labour Market Study

Cardiff University

The South Wales / M4 Corridor has a high concentration of energy systems employees and those employed in the wider supply chain.

This short report from The Innovation Partnership (Kada Research were sub-contractors) looks at the labour market for Energy Systems in South Wales. It provided intelligence to inform a bid for an Energy Systems Catapult (Hub) to the Technology Strategy Board. It comprised of two principal components (1) a desk analysis of relevant literature and (2) a statistical review of demand and supply side data and growth projections for the energy sector.

The study demonstrated that the South Wales / M4 Corridor has an exceptional mix of energy systems global players, suppliers and specialists and a strong talent pool of relevant occupational categories. It also noted that HEI and FE infrastructure was well positioned to meet the predicted growth of the energy and utility sector.

“Global players”

“The South Wales / M4 Corridor in particular has a high concentration of energy systems employees and those employed in the wider supply chain. This is combined with the presence of an exceptional mix of energy systems global players, suppliers and specialists and a strong talent pool of relevant occupational categories.”
