The inaugural RHS Chatsworth Show will be held Wat the ancestral home of the Cavendish family (The Duke and Duchess of Devonshire) in the Peak District National Park. It is the latest addition to the RHS show calendar. The aim of this local economic impact assessment was to provide an independent perspective on the likely economic impacts that the show will generate, with a particular focus on how this translates into local benefits. The purpose of this is to complement the RHS event planning application to the Peak District National Park Authority (PDNPA), but also to provide event intelligence for the RHS to inform future show planning. Using the information from a literature review and consultations, a series of potential economic impacts was generated – direct and indirect effects, as well as wider or longer-term effects. We also created a local economic impact model to estimate the financial and employment impacts that the Chatsworth Show is projected to generate.

The report concluded by setting out the range and scale of local economic impacts that can be reasonably expected as a result of the show. “Overall, the model estimates that the RHS Chatsworth Show 2017 will generate approximately £7.07m direct local expenditure impact (gross), of which £3.02m is attributable to accommodation, £2.08m non-accommodation, £0.37m RHS investment and £1.58m exhibitor investment”. ~ Conclusion, 2016

“As part of the pre planning application we were asked to provide an economic impact statement to the Peak District National Park detailing how the proposed RHS Chatsworth Flower Show will benefit the local and regional economy.

We chose to work with Kada Research due to their friendly nature and willingness to help. Also the fact that they were locally based.
A number of documents, including the Kada research were then submitted as full planning permission to the PDNP. Following review the RHS obtained a ten year licence for the show to be held on the grounds of the Chatsworth estate.
